About this coffee

This is the fresh harvest of the lot that placed fourth at the 2022 Best of Panama (BOP) auction, a lot we were thrilled to secure for you at the time. This year's harvest is even more abundant, thanks to the exceptional development of the plants. We’re excited to offer you this lot exclusively worldwide. The unique SL34 variety, renowned for its outstanding flavor profile, originally hails from Kenya, where challenging growing conditions make it difficult to find as a single variety. However, at our partner farm, Finca Lerida in Panama—specifically on the "Floral Estate"—this variety was first planted in 2017 under ideal climate conditions and has thrived ever since. 2022 marked the first year that the plants produced enough cherries to participate in the Best of Panama auction, where they secured a remarkable fourth place. The cherries were traditionally washed after harvest and then dried on shaded drying beds for about 16 days.

ORIGIN INFO

The Farm

The "Flora Estate" is one of the five farms that make up Finca Lerida. Located in the Volcancito region of Boquete, anyone who has the opportunity to visit this farm will feel the magic of this place in the middle of the Panamanian rainforest. Finca Lerida is a woman run farm and her attention to detail is evident throughout. Maria Amuroso grew up as the eldest of 5 siblings in Boquete and grew coffee plants with her grandpa when she was still a girl and helped him with the processing. She always dreamed of her own farm and when Finca Lerida came up for sale in 2009 she breathed life into this special place with one of the best locations for coffee growing. It was her idea 5 years ago to plant the SL 34 variety from Kenya, which develops very well on the high slopes and therefore won fourth place with the first lot at the BOP 2022.
